Abstract
This study examines effective strategies for Catholic parents in nurturing adolescents' independent faith by applying John C. Maxwell's leadership theory. Adolescence is characterized by increasing autonomy, resistance to parental authority, and negative stereotypes that often hinder effective faith formation. Using a literature review and reflective analysis, this study explores how parents' leadership effectiveness is influenced by two major barriers, namely ego and negative stereotypes toward adolescents. These barriers limit parents' ability to progress through Maxwell's five levels of leadership and reduce their influence on adolescents' spiritual development. The findings indicate that reflective practice is viewed as an effective strategy to increase parents' self-awareness, enabling them to recognize and overcome ego and unconscious stereotypes. As these obstacles diminish, parent-adolescent relationships become more harmonious, creating a secure environment that facilitates the transmission and internalization of Catholic values. Consequently, reflection expected to strengthens parental leadership, enhances interpersonal communication, and supports adolescents in developing a mature and independent Catholic faith. This study highlights reflective practice as an important approach for improving faith education within Catholic families.
